FINDING A REAL DOLL ON THE ULYSSES RIVIERA

Finding A Real Doll on the Ulysses Riviera

Friday, January 22, 2010
By Joel Stratte-McClure

My son Luke accompanied me on the MedTrek after I spent a year bantering with Circe, the sorceress/nymph/witch/enchantress/mini-goddess who gave me some key advice about how to proceed on my walk around the Mediterranean Sea.

Luke played sociologist/archeologist/photographer during our stroll on Italy's "Ulysses Riviera" from San Felice de Circeo through Gaeta to Naples and Pompeii.
Two of his first photographic observations included this anatomically correct baby boy doll on the sand and a provocative message on a seaside bench.

He also caught me taking five in a grotto and lazing on a rampart as we approached Gaeta, one of Italy's oldest ports.

Oh, that kind of doll is well known to a professional pre-school teacher. I have bought these dolls from Italy for 15 years to put in classrooms to teach the children that boys and girls are different.
