There are those who say that social media (Facebook, LinkedIn,
Twitter, etc) are an essential ingredient for communication now and
in the future; and there are those who say that they are a
diverting pastime, more novelty than useful innovation, and with a
serious downside (see Lia Timson's article, "Instant Karma", in
this issue). Iggy Pintado, "internationally respected business
leader, consultant, speaker, marketer, author and connection
technology expert", is one of the former. In fact, he's so keen
that he proudly cites the thousands of 'followers' and 'friends' he
has as one of the Top 25 most connected business networkers in
Australia. He's a 'super connector', as opposed to the less-linked
active, selective, passive or basic connectors. Woe betide you if
you're a basic connector - you run the risk of being out of work or
may become a social outcast! Pintado's self-published book is full
of anecdotes from the frontline of connectedness, not to mention
the occasional flurry of CAPITALS. Is Pintado an unbiased
commentator? No. Do you believe him? Why wouldn't you believe a man
with so many friends?
