CREATIVE ACCOUNTING EXPOSED

Creative accounting exposed

More about the book...

De la Torre, who bears the title of Professor of Creative Accounting at the IE Business School in Spain, has collected a range of horror stories. A few, like WorldCom, are well-known, but the real value of the book is its focus on European cases and particular issues, such as Heineken's treatment of taxes as sales, Deutsche Bank's reporting of futures contracts, and L'Oreal's approach to consolidation. But these dubious achievements might be surpassed by the creativity of several European governments, especially in the recording of debt. Although these practices might not be illegal, they are certainly a long way from true and fair.
