THE ELEMENTS OF MENTORING

The Elements of Mentoring

Published by: Palgrave

More about the book...

This short but very useful book goes a long way to codifying processes usually learned by trial and error. Johnson and Ridley have backgrounds as psychologists, and they provide a series of insights into how the relationship between a mentor and a protégé can be most productive. They range from the initial development of trust to the best ways to use language, carefully explaining the obligations of both participants. This could be a confusing subject but the authors' emphasis is on simplicity and clarity - a good model for the practice of mentoring, in fact. Johnson and Ridley aim primarily at mentors although anyone engaged in the business of management is likely to find some useful lessons here.
